Scientists pioneer cloaking technology Video

The idea of turning invisible could be closer to 'science fact' than 'science fiction'.

Researchers at the University of Texas have for the first time used an invisibility cloak to make a three-dimensional object.

One cloaking technique uses so-called meta-materials to redirect light, creating 2-dimensional invisibility; another uses a heat panel to create a mirage effect, bending the light to trick the eye.

The latest advance uses plasmonic meta-materials to cancel all reflected light. No reflection means the object disappears into 3-dimensional invisibility.

we could be biologically altered to see in the uv and infared spectrum. it's not been tested or proven, but it's possible via genetic manipulation? (i.e. with viruses that alter chemical production in the eye). It'd probably be too dangerous to try on a human... but maybe in the future...

Cloaking an aircraft this way wouldn't work for long anyway, because the? enemy can easily develop a device to detect black spots - caused by this method of cloaking. In other words, this discovery has a lot of hype, but in fact, useless.

This cloaking technique is only good for hiding from machine detection - e.g. Making an airplane stealthy. It cannot cloak a person in plain sight unless the environment is pitch black, in which case, no? cloaking device is needed any way.
